Plenty Valley Christian School
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle & Respect!

In Term 2, 1999 Grade 4 students began a recycling project. We started using a compost bin and with the provision of a worm farm, some of the food scraps collected went to feed the worms.

Several groups of students rehearsed and then made presentations at assembly and to most of the primary classes with a demonstration of how to sort our waste and how to collect the food left overs for composting.

We watched the number of worms multiply and found baby worms in the worm farm.

Soon we realised that recycling is not something you can do for just a term but is really part of developing an attitude and lifestyle which respects God's creation and God's people on this planet. We used recycled containers for our science experiments and we are always on the lookout for stray aluminium cans. There is a drinks machine and canteen at school so Grade 4 students collect the empty cans from around the school. The money from cashing them in goes to a church mission.

At the end of year concert students will be performing "R.E.C.Y.C.L.E." to the tune of "Respect"; as sung by Aretha Franklin.

Many of the things we have learned are included in the words, dance and actions.
