Syndal South Primary School
A School For a Sustainable Future

In 1999 Syndal South Primary School has built on the worm farming and recycling program commenced in 1998.

Food scraps are recycled via compost bins and the worm farm. A gardening club has been formed and a variety of fruits, vegetables and herbs are being grown in the organic vegetable garden.

The gardening team has also extended its activities to include the schools extensive native gardens.

Additional worm farms are being established from the original stock and these will be sold within the school community. A "Worm Enterprises" option was offered as part of the term four clubs and hobbies program. An enthusiastic group set about designing order forms and advertising posters and collating information for customers.

During the year a staff member attended a Principals conference at VISY in Campbellfield. The focus of the conference was on ways in which schools could become more environmentally conscious and save both financial and material resources.

Some excellent ideas were shared by participants on how to lower energy and resource use, particularly paper and electricity consumption. Syndal South goes into the year 2000 determined to work towards an environmentally sound future.
