One of the key issues of science in the21s century will be its' role in helping to preserve and create a sustainable future for our children. This PD day will explore and share the curriculum programs that science teachers and educators have developed around the theme of sustainability and environmental issues.

Key Presentations

Creating a Sustainable School from ground zero.

Ina Keulich from Mt Waverley Nth PS will highlight an holistic curriculum approach to the environment which includes the development of school grounds through the Hands on Learnscapes programs and integration into the Science and SOSE curriculum.

Southmoor PS has won many awards for its extensive development of environment projects and integration into the curriculum. The last 5 years have seen a magnificent wetlands built into the middle of the school (and its curriculum!), a vegetable and flower garden integrated into the Prep-2 program, an IT component which uses and promotes the schools environmental ethos and the development of Hands on Learnscapes to further expand the educational value of their projects

A school tour and presentations from students and teachers will show what is achievable, how it has happened and the impact it can have on your school.

Schools for a Sustainable Future will highlight the Worming into the Community program as an integrated Science/SOSE unit that can focus your school on practical recycling programs.
Afternoon sessions will include Pat Armstrong from the Sustainable Schools program outlining the curriculum activities in this new initiative.
There will also be small group workshops to share teacher brought resources and the range of science programs developed by the Science in Schools network as well as environmental education resources.

If you are Science or SOSE teacher wanting to develop your school as an environmental leader
-- we will see you there.
